DA La Banda
DA La Banda is a typeface developed from the lettering featured on the cover of La Banda, Mina’s 1967 single released by the Ri-Fi label. Designed by Studio Moletti and illustrated by Mario Moletti, the cover stands as one of the most effective examples of late-1960s Italian pop graphics: vibrant colors, optical patterns, and soft forms combine to create a festive and instantly recognizable visual identity. From this hand-painted lettering comes an alphabet that preserves all the spontaneity and visual energy of the original artwork.
Morphologically, DA La Banda belongs to the category of soft and voluminous display typefaces. The letters are characterized by continuous, flowing outlines, with broad curves that almost completely eliminate corners and sharp edges. The glyphs take on a swollen, organic appearance, as if modeled from a soft material or inflated from within. The counters are generous and irregular, while the varying proportions introduce a spontaneous and informal rhythm. The absence of geometric tension and the presence of fluid transitions give the typeface a playful and approachable character.
Designed for titles, packaging, editorial projects, food and beverage applications, and informal visual identities, DA La Banda translates the visual optimism of 1960s Italian pop culture into typographic language, balancing graphic naïveté, communicative immediacy, and a strong expressive personality.
