JAC
A custom typeface inspired by the lettering of Benito Jacovitti.
JAC typeface
JAC is a display typeface developed by Design Associati for an exhibition and its accompanying catalogue dedicated to Benito Jacovitti, one of the most original figures in Italian comic art.
Inspired by an alphabet originally drawn by Jacovitti, the project transforms his distinctive graphic language into a digital typeface, preserving the expressive freedom, visual humor and unconventional forms of his lettering.
From illustration to typography
The typeface originates from two complete sets of uppercase letters drawn by Jacovitti, characterized by irregular proportions, inclined strokes, asymmetrical shapes and playful distortions.
The digitization process preserves the spontaneous character of the original drawings while introducing the consistency needed for typographic composition. The two uppercase alphabets provide alternative letterforms, allowing variation and a more natural rhythm in the text.
Designed for an exhibition
Developed as part of the exhibition's visual identity, JAC establishes a direct connection between Jacovitti's artistic language and the graphic design of the project.
Used across the exhibition's communication materials and accompanying catalogue, the typeface extends the artist's visual universe beyond his illustrations, becoming an integral element of the editorial and exhibition design.
